AbstractThis talk addresses the Neumann initial-boundary problem for a chemotaxis system with indirect signal production, which was proposed by Strohm, Tyson and Powell in 2013 to describe the spread and aggregative behavior of the Mountain Pine Bettle (MPB) in a forest habitat. It is shown that this problem exhibits a novel critical mass phenomenon with regard to the formation of singularities, which drastically differs from the well-known threshold property of the classical Keller-Segel system, in that it refers to blow-up in infinite time rather than finite time. The talk is based a joint work with Michael Winkler (Paderborn).
