the Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics of HIT
The Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (IASM) was established in July 2016 and is directly affiliated with the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT). IASM is an academic highland of HIT, enjoying many special policies from the university. IASM is also an inseparable partner of the School of Mathematics.
Over the past eight years, IASM has developed rapidly. It currently has 30 members, including 15 national high-level talents of various kinds. In addition, IASM has employed 3 international part-time chair professors, one of whom is a Fields Medal winner. The scientific committee of the institute, which is responsible for discipline construction, recruitment, and promotion, is composed of world- renowned mathematicians from China and abroad. The operation model of the institute is the French Mathematical Research Center, and the daily administrative affairs are handled by full-time secretaries, so as to create a free and relaxing atmosphere for researchers. IASM now has multiple openings at different ranks and is inviting applicants from all disciplines in pure and applied mathematics.
1: Distinguished Professor:
Requirement: The applicant should have been selected for the national talent program or have the potential for the national talent program. The applicant will need to work for IASM at least 3 years since the effective date of the contract. The teaching load for this position is one course per year.
Compensation: Successful applicant will be employed as a Chair Professor (long-term) or a Long-term Professor, and granted the qualification of doctoral supervisor. The institute will provide a competitive salary and a finely decorated new house (up to 238
) or an equivalent amount of settlement allowance.
For the Chair Professor/Long-term Professor (first-class), the salary will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis; for the Long-term Professor (second-class), the annual salary ranges from 2 million to 6 million CNY; for the Long-term Professor (third-class), the annual salary ranges from 1 million to 4 million CNY.
2: Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas): Requirement: The applicant should hold a doctorate degree and in general be under 40. The applicant should have been selected for the national youth talent program or have the potential for the national youth talent program. The applicant will need to work for IASM at least 3 years since the effective date of the contract. The teaching load for this position is one course per year.
Compensation: The annual salary range for the position is 1 million CNY. The institute will provide housing (no less than 160) or settlement fee (no less than 2 million CNY) for this position. The institute will provide a research funding package, ranging from 3 million to 10 million CNY. In addition, a successful applicant for this position will be certified as Class B talent of the Heilongjiang Province, and the Provincial government shall provide preferential policies in medical treatment, transportation, etc. The university will also help to resolve the two-body problem, and provide quality education resources from kindergarten to high school. Special Note: Those who are shortlisted for the defense but fail to pass, after evaluation, can be included in Shenzhou Scholar support program. They will be provided with the annual salary of 800,000 CNY, a research fund ranging from 1 million to 3 million CNY, and active assistance in housing placement, children's education, and spouse's job.
3: Shenzhou Scholar:
Requirement: The applicant should hold a doctorate degree. The applicant should in general be under 38 for the Shenzhou Scholar and be under 32 for the Young Shenzhou Scholar. For exceptionally outstanding applicants, the age constraints can be appropriately relaxed. Successful applicants of these positions are required to be onboard full time within six months.
Compensation: The Shenzhou Scholar (senior) is provided with the annual salary of 800,000 CNY and a research funding package between 1 million to 3 million CNY. The Young Shenzhou Scholar (associate senior) is provided with the annual salary of 500,000 CNY and a research funding package between 500,000 and 1,500,000 CNY.
4: Postdoctoral Fellow:
Requirement: The applicant should hold a doctorate degree. The applicant should in general be under 32 for the associate research fellow and be under 35 for the assistant research fellow. The applicant has made outstanding contributions to their discipline and owns the potential to become an excellent young talent in his/her field. There is no teaching requirement for these two positions.
Compensation: The annual salary ranges from 310,000 to 350,000 CNY for the associate research fellow (associate senior) and from 210,000 to 250,000 CNY for the assistant research fellow. The institute will provide a research funding package of 100,000 CNY for both positions.
Other Entitlements:
The university and the institute will provide necessary working conditions for successful applicants. The university will actively provide assistance to successful candidates in terms of housing placement, children's school enrolment and spouse's job. A faculty housing complex (furnished) is being built near the campus and will be sold to young talent at a preferential price on a priority basis.
