The Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (IASM) was established in July 2016 and is directly affiliated with the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT). IASM is an academic highland of HIT, enjoying many special policies from the university. IASM is also an inseparable partner of the School of Mathematics.
Over the past seven years, IASM has developed rapidly. It currently has 26 members, including 13 national high-level talents of various kinds. In addition, IASM has employed 3 international part-time chair professors. The scientific committee of the institute, which is responsible for discipline construction, recruitment, and promotion, is composed of world-renowned mathematicians from China and abroad. The operation model of the institute is the French Mathematical Rescarch Center, and the daily administrative affairs are handled by full-time secretaries, so as to create a free and relaxing atmosphere for researchers. IASM now has multiple openings at different ranks and is inviting applicants from all disciplines in pure and applied mathematics.
1: Distinguished Professor:
Requirement: The applicant should hold a doctorate degree and in general be under 45. The applicant should have been selected for the national talent program or have the potential for the national talent program. The applicant will need to work for IASM at least 3 years since the effective date of the contract. The teaching load for this position is one course per year.
Compensation: The annual salary range for the position is no less than the salary offered for national talents. The institute will provide a highly competitive research funding package, which can accumulate up to 10 million CNY. The institute will also provide ample research facilities and offer sufficient support for team building
2: Full Professor:
Requirement: The applicant should hold a doctorate degree and in general be under 40. The applicant should have been selected for the national youth talent program or have the potential for the national youth talent program. The applicant will need to work for IASM at least 3 years since the effective date of the contract. The teaching load for this position is one course per year.
Compensation: The annual salary range for the position is 700,000 CNY, with an additional 100,000 CNY for the first six years. The institute will provide housing (no less than 160m²) or settlement fee (no less than 2 million CNY) for this position. The institute will provide a research funding package, ranging from 3 million to 10 million CNY. In addition, a successful applicant for this position will be certified as Class B talent of the Heilongjiang Province, and the Provincial government shall provide preferential policies in medical treatment, transportation, etc. The university will also help to resolve the two-body problem, and provide quality education resources from kindergarten to high school.
3: Professor and Associate Professor:
Requirement: The applicant should hold a doctorate degree. The applicant should in general be under 40 for the professorship and be under 35 for the associate professorship. These age constraints do not apply to applicants who meet the national talent program application requirements. Successful applicants of these positions are required to be onboard full time within six months.
Compensation: The annual salary for professor is no less than 400,000 CNY and the annual salary for associate professor is no less than 330,000 CNY. The institute will provide a rescarch funding package between 300,000 to 1,000,000 CNY for professors, and a research funding package of 300,000 CNY for associate professors. The institute will provide a settlement fee of 600,000 CNY for professors, and a settlement fee of 200,000 CNY for associate professors.
4: Assistant Professor and Postdoctoral Fellow:
Requirement: The applicant for both positions should hold/or is going to hold a doctorate degree, and in general be under 30. The institute is looking for scholars who have made outstanding contributions to their discipline. There is no teaching requirement for these two positions. The contract for both positions is a 3-term contract, with each term being 2 years (2+2+2 contract).
Compensation: The salary is 330,000 CNY (before tax) for the assistant professor and is 230,000 CNY for the postdoctoral fellow. The institute will provide a research funding package of 100,000 CNY for both positions.
Other Entitlements:
The university and the institute will provide necessary working conditions for successful applicants. The university will actively provide assistance to successful candidates in terms of housing placement, children's school enrollment and spouse's job. A faculty housing complex(furnished) is being built near the campus and will be sold to young talent at a preferential price on a priority basis.
