Title: Free probability — aspects and applications in analysis and combinatorics
Ping Zhong:Waterloo University,Wuhan University
Abstract:Free probability is a probability theory of noncommutative random variables. It is an interdisciplinary research area lying in the interface between functional analysis and probability. Deep connections with operator algebras and random matrices illustrate some of the various interactions between free probability and a variety of research fields.
In this talk, I will survey some of the ideas and concepts of free probability which have impacts on combinatorics and quantum information theory. I plan to discuss in particular: 1) an operator model for semi-meander polynomial and its $q$-deformation, 2) free probability and random matrix techniques to study some problems related to quantum states.
