Abstract: The prototypical diagrammatic tool in quantum information theory is the quantum circuit, which enables the underlying algebraic aspects of quantum data, transformations, and measurements in protocols and algorithms to be explored and visualized. In joint work with Arthur Jaffe and Zhengwei Liu, we introduced a new diagrammatic approach to quantum information theory based upon charged strings, which enables the underlying topological features of quantum protocols and quantum computations. We will discuss how this methodology gives rise to a new way to design protocols, and we will present a new multi-party quantum teleportation protocol.
